Boomkat Editions | Documenting Sound is a series of cassette releases documenting different approaches to creative life during lockdown. We asked musicians from around the globe to record material quickly and without premeditation, in whatever style or genre they wished.
The tape cover for every release in the series is based around a typographic re-imagining of Letraset sheets, all using Helvetica and the same grid system. Within these limitations the emphasis for each release has been to try and individuate the design by use of colour, decay or more radical shape formations.
The artwork for the Jake Muir & Xela release was inspired by the album's title - Safe. By creating a visual representation of the word, warm-toned lines sweep and envelope the type to add a sense of shelter.
Also includes an 8-panel foldout insert with artist snapshots of their day to day life, plus personal text.
