Tlholego Development Project
Rustenburg, South Africa
The Tlholego Development Project is a teacher training center, emerging ecovillage, and focus for sustainability experimentation and outreach in Southern Africa. I worked here from 1993-1999, and was lucky enough to be on-site during Nelson Mandela's election in 1994. While on site, I created a master plan, outdoor classroom, cookhouse, intern housing, and composting toilet. I taught several courses there on natural building, ecological design, and sustainable village development. I was sponsored for some of this work through the US Department of State.
