Arbitrary Rendezvous 2020

Arbitrary Rendezvous. 2020
A visual diary of my life in Warsaw during the pandemic.

Looking back through these images, they make me realize how long this year felt. Days blending into one another, constantly adapting to new changes, lockdowns and life situations as each day presented new challenges. It would be easy for me to recount how desperate it all made me feel, but that is only part of the truth and is something that we all collectively experienced and continue to experience.

I connected more often with my family, often daily even with a 9-hour time difference and expressed love more often fearing that I may lose the chance to do so later, and I connected on a deeper level with my partner as we both grew accustomed to working from home and adapting to 24/7 life. I continued to explore my surroundings in spite of the feelings of uncertainty and, I realized that I started to appreciate all the small things I may have taken for granted in other years and gave myself some space to be aware of them.

I broke these images into seasons and included many more than I might normally, but I felt that they told a better story this way. As with most of my recent years, it's still a celebration of randomness and how the day never ends quite like I thought it might anyway. As I look to this year ahead and wonder what arbitrary encounters might fill it, I look back on this last one with appreciation for being in the exact spots I needed to be when I needed to be.

Health and happiness to you and yours in these strange times.
