Infinity and beyond
Why this project was so special...
My tenure as a secretory of the club was going to end. I guess it was month September and all the team members of Film and Media Council were working really hard to make our college festival FMC Weekend a great success.
FMC Weekend was in the first week of November and I realized that I did take some of the initiatives and club improved a lot since I joined but still I was missing something. There was nothing on which I could feel proud of, which could create a new milestone and raise the bar of the club. FMC Weekend was the biggest opportunity and my last chance to make it happen and do something which can leave a legacy behind.
For the fest every year we have to make a Theme launch video, I decided at that time that I would make it completely as a 3D animation video irrespective of time and efforts it would take.
It was a difficult task as no one in the past ever made a single animated video completely in 3D and it was going to be shown in front of all college but I decided to take a chance and put all the efforts.
Initial preparation...
I decided to work on the project on a structured manner to avoid all the time and effort losses. We started with thinking about the core idea of the project. I told everyone to share all the ideas on chat groups. We referred to Instagram videos, explored Behance.net for the inspiration. We shortlisted few basic ideas and then finally decided to go on with one of them.
Let it roll...
Since we were running out of the time so we focused mainly on story telling and to convey the message of the theme to the audience. Also a major constraint was the rendering time and resources. We all were students and didn't have powerful computers. We completed all the project on our laptops itself. Two laptops were set aside just for rendering all day and night for this work.
I decided to use animations from mixamo.com. I found nearly every animation there that was needed to make our project successful.
Making it happen...
To be honest whenever I think about that time, I am still not able to believe that I was able to make it happen. It was really challenging task for me in a lot of terms. We were from a purely technical college with no formal education about Art and design. We didn't have any high performance GPUs, no professional experience, nothing. The only thing which kept us moving was the passion and the habit of winning every time. It doesn't really matter whether we have resources or not, the only thing that matter is hard work and passion to do something great. I learned everything from internet and I always wanted to make something like this that's why I was able to make it.
When video was finally released I got messages from the seniors who were passed out from the college many years before and I didn't even knew them at that time. But it was the risk which I took and the dedication that I showed which made every sleepless night a worth remembering experience.
