SONGA MBELE MUSIC VIDEO
Isaac Kimani approached Laka Nyaga (Dorky Pictures) and I to create the visuals for this project and we were thrilled to give it a go.

We split the project into two tasks,
I would take on the  art direction, story boarding, character design and illustration based on Laka's concept for the video and interpretation of the song, and
Laka would take on the animation and VFX.

The project was more challenging than we thought it would be, but Isaac was gracious enough to give us more time than the initial deadline to complete the project, as devine intervention also lent us an extra hand, as the final audio kept being pushed as well.
Lol!

Stick to deadlines kids!

GENESIS
The first part was the initial storyboards that i whipped up, based on Laka's direction and concept for the video.Laka had already spoken to Kimani who green-lit the concept.
SKETCHES
The next part involved the sketching of the scene elements, backgrounds, foreground elements, artifacts/props, characters, etc.
This is where the size of the project dawned on me and i was wary over whether we will be able to complete this project as envisioned
ILLUSTRATIONS
When i had completed the sketches for every scene and element, i then moved on to the next stage which was finalizing the illustrations in Adobe Illustrator and photoshop, and separating the elements for the animator to be able to manipulate them.
*Working as a motion designer and animator was a plus for this project, as i was able to anticipate the needs of the animator on this project.
THE END GAME
After many moons, i was done with the scenes and emailed them to Laka who proceeded to animate them, sharing communication back and forth on anything i may have left out, or that was needed to get the final result, as share below!
Whoop Whoop!!
