This portrait project celebrates the now almost forgotten tradition of the local village pantomime.
As a kid growing up in a small village in Leicestershire the village panto was a big deal, and an opportunity for the community come together for a night.
However, over time village pantomimes have become increasingly rare and are quickly disappearing along with the community spirit they encouraged.
I found this small group called the Harby Harlequins that have been meeting since 1999 to put on an annual pantomime that they write entirely themselves & perform each year at the local village hall.
When I heard about the group, I knew I had to first applaud them for their commitment to keeping alive the tradition of the village pantomime, but also document what they were doing in a series of portraits. I wanted to capture and portray the fun, laughter and beautiful memories that they created for everyone in their local community each year.
Below is a small selection of images from the series.
