Digital body presence
School group work in collaboration with Agustin Guerrero.

This project follows an exploratory design process of kinaesthetic interaction experiences. We are to iterate on the idea of “body presence”, an abstract way of our presence and body movements in the world.

“We perceive the world by being in it and experiencing it, therefore we thought about how we also perceive our own body in a similar way - even if we can't change the size of our body we can change how much or little space we can occupy”

This got us to be interested in how we can, by using our bodies, create a perception of being smaller or bigger, taller or shorter, wider and slimmer, by the position of our body parts. When we represent ourselves as big: we usually stretch our limbs, trying to reach the limits of them and when we represent ourselves as small: we contract our limbs until we can’t possibly occupy less space.

For the project we used TensowFlow’s machine learning model Posenet. This model allowed us to track different parts of our body through a webcam that we used to program our sketches.

Final sketch: Digital body presence
The sketches made us experience and test the limits of our bodies when interacting with the shape, how much can we stretch or how little can we become - making different body positions to form the shape. We can stretch our bodies in different ways, using different parts of our body. This allowed us to experience how we identify ourselves to the shape and move according to it.
