Reconstrucción: War is not a game

How to put a player in the role of a totally unknown character? Once the genre of the game was selected, one of the first challenges to tackle in the development was to choose a look and feel for the game. For that, various iterations on the characters and backgrounds were developed. To tell the story of each character, several arts were produced, based on real places and products from the Colombian context.
As the game had a difficult theme, the overall process of game mechanics and story design was made with an iterative approach, making different play tests with specific groups of players. Those tests led to the final gameplay. Elements such as the game's UI (based on the woven fabric work from war victims) evolved with the development of those tests.
