Y&R Austin Announcement Video

When SicolaMartin approached us to create a video to help announce their rebrand as Y&R Austin, we were honored to be part of something so special. Executive Creative Director Chris Wood really wanted to find a way to combine music elements and devices with the idea that something was being constructed by hand.

Armed with the idea and their boards we headed over to OHM Recording Facility and spent an afternoon shooting macro footage of gear and other cool things. After grabbing a lot of really beautiful footage, we were left with the challenge of trying to somehow create the logo in a way that tied everything together. What if we could somehow create the logo literally out of sound? What would that look like and how would it work?

After a little R&D we stumbled upon a way to create images on an oscilloscope using sound waves. After a few attempts we finally hit play and managed to wrangle the electron gun of the oscilloscope to display the image we were looking for.

I suppose we could have faked the effect with a plugin like trapcode form, but there is no way we could have recreated all of the organic qualities of the real scope through the glass. We finished up the piece with a little foley and heavy sound design and are thrilled with the result. Congrats to our old friends at the new Y&R Austin.
