This movie poster was based on the novel ‘1Q84’ by Haruki Murakami.
I chose a monochrome minimalist design because it resembles the most the author’s writing style, simple and straightforward. The color green –in RGB mode is represented by 47, 171, 102– was chosen in reference to the green moon in the story, and it’s the color of revitalization and rebirth. All items are based on rounded rectangles and ellipses.
The typefaces are Pier Sans Light and Hiragino Sans CNS, both are sans-serif, geometrical and pretty similar type fonts. The first one is for latin characters and the other for Japanese characters, this makes sure that no kanji –ideogram– is missing nor illegible.
I made this poster with Illustrator, it’s a vectorial illustration organized by layers. The most used tools were the pen, the rectangular shape for frames and some elements within the car, and the text tool. I used gradients, a lace special brush, the pathfinder panel, the curvature tool...
The logos were downloaded from the Internet and traced automatically for the poster, some names shown are real, the rest is dummy text.
