Perception Magazine

Perception Magazine

The Brief
Design an Australian arts and culture magazine with a bespoke masthead. The text and photo assets given should also be used within the magazine.

Rationale
This magazine was a chance for me to experiment with layout, photo manipulation and other creative techniques. I was inspired by the print media that I enjoy, as well as other personal interests. I really wanted to capture what - and who - each article was about, and bring in a style unique to each individual article. I believe the name Perception is quite fitting for an arts and culture magazine as all things art and design are open to interpretation.

Concept
In order to give each article a different look and feel I chose alternating typefaces for the headings and pull out quotes. The brief required our masthead to be influenced by the one of the articles within the magazine, so this issue of Perception was inspired by photographic manipulation used in the article ‘Fleeting Glimpses’. For each issue, the masthead will be illustrated or manipulated in a new way, so no two are the same. The magazine and limited run posters would also be sold on the Perception website.
