Editorial Illustration: Student Work
Prompt: Choose an article and create an accompanying illustration for it.
The topic I chose is one personal to my family. It's a topic often difficult to talk about, and people in the Church are still learning how to handle it. I found the article on The Gospel Coalition and admired the author's tender words and appreciated how they shared their personal experience with infertility.
I pulled all of the descriptive words from the article to hopefully gain some artistic ideas. The one that stood out to me the most was "the valley of the shadow of infertility." I took this idea and ran with it to help give others an idea how infertility can feel for some couples going through it.
The piece felt really dark and flat at first...
so I brightened it up in photoshop with a brush and overlay. The light was adjusted to come from behind the couple more. They prepare to walk through an arch of marigolds, sometimes a symbol of pain and of grief.
