Kaamos Aurinko - the sun of the polar night.

An immersive light room at Icehotel Jukkasjärvi shows the continuous sunset - the other side of the Arctic, where the sun never sets.

The nature of the Arctic is characterized by its extreme duality of the complete absence and presence of light. During the polar night, the sun will not rise above the horizon at this latitude. It is not until more than a month later that the daytime expands to as much as four hours, finally exceeding eight hours by the end of February.

The colors of polar twilight in the winter months range from dark purple to dark blue, sometimes illuminated by the fluorescent green of the majestic Aurora Borealis. Complementing this, the colors of the polar day commonly referred to as the Midnight Sun, with its warm tones of sunset merging uninterruptedly into sunrise, are completely absent during the winter months.

In the darkness of the polar night, the ice hotel takes shape. It provides temporary shelter during the dark half of the year. In our cozy suite, guests find more than just a shelter. They look into a snow dome that reflects the colors of summer.

The suite is divided into two parts:
The anteroom is lit in the colors of polar twilight - a playful dance between different shades of dark purple and dark blue. Snow falls from above, and to the left is an opening that leads into the dome.
Crossing a threshold, guests enter the Temple of the Summer Sun, where a "warm" light fills the dome. Here in this cave, the sun has retreated into a room of the Ice Hotel during the winter months.
