Comics for Iclusive Language Learning
Level 2
CIELL app is a collaboration between comic artists, language teachers and learning technology researchers. It aims to enhance the quality of language teaching materials used for teaching writing as a second language and support the needs of dyslexic learners in a socially inclusive manner. Specifically, the app’s focus is on opinion essays, reviews and article writing. It includes, among other learning tasks, 17 sample essays divided in two different levels, all designed in a web toons format, whose topics are based on the 17 United Nations goals for 2030.
The app's level 2 graphic approach is deliberately more stylised and abstract, compared to level 1's more figurative visual style, to fit the writting tone of the above essays. Below is presented a sample of panels included in level 2 essays.
