art200 asteroid game

The asteroid game, while simple, is an effective and easy way to make an interactive game, and learn the basic concepts of 2d interactivity. Movement, shooting, and spawning enemy obstacles are all baseline things we see in even the most technical and advanced of video games, and their concepts are centered around simple things done well.
With the asteroid, I just took a rock from my backyard, and placed it on a black background, took a picture with good lighting, and filtered out the black, the point of the objects in the game was to make them from homemade objects, or make it in an arts and crafts style, rather than doing simple drawn vector graphics like would normally be seen
For the lasers that are shot, I used a brick, and rotated it horizontally, which looks like a standard red laser in motion. I feel this was a creative spin and way to make the laser.
For the space ship, same procedure, scanned a picture of an old spaceship toy I had in an old crate of my old childhood stuff I had laying around. It made for a good render, as it wasn't too bright or too dark, and stands out quite well in the game.
For the background I did cheat, I already had made this drawing before, and re-used it for the purpose of this game, If I had to remake it, I would probably just draw a space background on construction paper and scan it into the game.
