12"x16" "Still Life" Oil on Canvas

Painted in Spring 2020, this still was my first venture into oil painting from life. This piece also marks my first use or textural work on a two dimensional surface while also including brush work with an abstracted background.

This still life began with a wash of tints of purple and pink to tone the canvas. the subject is then loosely sketched over the toned canvas by paint brush before tonal values were applied to imply the form of the still life. Rarely are colors blended, and are instead brushed boldly over one another for extra texture before finally scraping small bits of impasto in the background and saturated colors added to provide interest.
