A chocolate letter is a typical Dutch delicacy. It is given as a gift during the holidays in December, especially for Sinterklaas. Usually, you’ll receive the initial of your first name. The letters are available in many different flavours, but the font tends to be the same: Egyptienne.

We were asked to design modern packaging for chocolate letters, but gave the question an extra dimension by adding a range of fonts to choose from. By adding the different fonts, the product targets a new audience: the design enthusiast. Moreover, it makes the chocolate letter into an international, year-round product instead of a seasonal Dutch product.

The 'ChocoTypes' are a series of chocolate letters by designers for designers. The fonts are given a prominent place on the packaging, including the font size needed to get the correct weight in chocolate. The letter included in the package is highlighted in 'the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog'. This sentence is a pangram: it contains all letters of the alphabet.
