This assignment was all about creating an icon set infographic poster of our favourite food, using icon design principles and design elements. A huge part of our day is spent interacting with icons. Mobile apps, websites, even navigation signs all use icons to communicate directions visually. Icon design is my first step into UI/UX design. To get started, I looked through a variety of icon design styles and decided on using flat design to create my icon set. My moodboard reflects flat design icons that I could relate to.

Here are the initial ideas and basic icons

My love for Southeast Asian cuisine is enormous. I wanted to show some amazing dishes that would go well as icons on more than one medium. I used rounded corners in all my icons. Since I was using flat design, I could add a dash of colour to my icons. I stuck to using dual colour in muted tones to avoid overdoing the colour.
Finally, adding some colour to the icons.

Reflective analysis

This assignment has helped me understand the foundations of icon design. I focussed on using grids and designing minimal icons with geometric abstraction. I could also improve my skills with tools like photoshop and illustrator and used elements like shape builder and path finder to name a few. A couple of my icons were inconsistent with a dual colour theme that I had used. Rectified those by adding new elements and a dual colour. Good learning and more exposure.
