Here are my three pieces for the 3NES Show for the Bottleneck Gallery which premiered Sept 6th, 2013. My idea was to show the heroes of each game in a light we don't always see them in -- beat up and bloody. This is what it takes to save the princess or the world from the Metroid.

 

I first sketched each character, blew up the sketches and went over them with my Pentel Pocket Brush Pen to give the edges a torn and textured feel. Then those inked drawings were scanned and digitally colored in Photoshop with a dull color palette.

 

The backgrounds were to coincide with the color of the packaging that came with my favorite game in their respective series of games. Yellow for Super Mario Bros 3, Gold for the original Legend of Zelda and Silver for the original Metroid. Each is sized at 13" x 19" and for sale through the Bottleneck Gallery.
