Graphic Designers Team: Fernanda Faggioni & Vanessa Lin

The Curiosity Box is a quarterly subscription box curated by the Vsauce team. Each box always includes viral science toys, brain-busting puzzles, books, a custom t-shirt & more. There are up to 9 items in each box and a portion of proceeds aid Alzheimer's research and fund the Inquisitive Fellowship.

In this project I was responsible for the art direction, graphic design, packaging, and product design of their curated items. All items had to maintain the curiosity box style and guidelines when designing. In this project you will be able to see the creative process that goes behind each final item and packaging. Throughout the project I had the pleasure to work with both Fernanda Faggioni and Vanessa Lin.

Project will be updated with each coming box.  I hope you enjoy the results!
Our first project was the summer 2020 box. In this project I had the pleasure to work with Vanessa Lin. This box was different from the others being that there were some artistic direction that previously defined for a few items. Vanessa recreated those items - which were: the shipper box cover artwork, featured T-shirt design, Inq's Magic 8 Ball packaging, Inq's Magnifier packaging, Inq's Anamorphic Cylinder box and it's "How to Create your Own Anamorphic" paper guides. I designed the packaging and box concept for the Symmetric and Cuttric puzzles, the layout of the shipper box, steam game card layouts, insert card, and Anamorphic Cylinder envelope along with it's interactive posters. Art from the sticker, postcard, steam game and book were not created by our design team.
For the fall 2020 box I had complete control over the artistic direction while maintaining The Curiosity Box guidelines. The main item for the box was Inq's Solar Panel Car Kit. The car was to be featured on the cover of the shipper box, I envisioned it being built at a shop by mechanic octopus arms. Fernanda was the graphic designer who brought the vision to life along with the main gear pattern. Fernanda also designed under my direction the solar panel car box, the idea was to showcase the car's main parts being assembled. Fernanda created the different patterns for the t-shirt based on my visual direction. In the fall box I was able to design three products, the pen holder, the pencil tin holder and the sharpener. In this box, I designed Inq's Pen Holder packaging, Inq's Raketti Puzzle packaging and rocket design, Inq's metal tin case, and pencil patterns. I also created the layouts of the shipper box, steam game card, solar panel car kit manual, and insert card. Art from the sticker, postcard, steam game and book were not created by our design team.
For the winter 2020 box one of the main items was Inq's Wrapping Paper. The main idea was to recreate famous optical illusions which then were narrowed down to three different illusions as gift wrapping papers for the holiday. From the wrapping papers - the shipper box was then created to mimic a checkered warping illusion. Fernanda Faggioni was the illustrator who designed the warped checkered pattern. In this box the Inquisitive Fellowship was introduced where I designed the featured guest's cards along with Inq's emblem on the envelope. The fellowship was created to showcase talented thinkers to the curiosity box consumers. I also designed the packaging for Inq's Kinetic Torus Knot, Inq's Pyramid Prism, and Inq's Potato Clock. Aside from the packaging I also did the layouts of the steam game, potato clock manual, shipper box, and insert card. The featured moon T-shirt for this box was made possible out of the courtesy from Nasa, who provided the photo. Art from steam game, book, and photos of each guest in the fellowship cards were not created by our design team.
For the spring 2021 box Inq got a magic makeover. The theme of this box was science magic, many of the properties of the items in the box mimics what might be seen as magic. The project director wanted to go for a magic minimal version of their mascot. He was used on the items as an indication that they have "magic" properties. Aside from the science magic items the hydrophobic maze was also an important item which carried to the shipper box design. Fernanda Faggioni was the illustrator who designed the pattern of the shipper box. I designed the two versions of the Inq's Hydrophobic Maze along with its packaging. I also designed the packaging for the Mind-Reading Miracle Tentacle and Bounce, No Bounce Balls. I also created the Mephisto Spiral packaging sticker,  Bimetallic Jumping Discs card, and T-shirt Illusion.  Aside from the packaging I also did the layouts of the steam game and insert card. Art from steam game, sticker, and books were not created by our design team.
For the summer 2021 box the Inq logo was changed into a silhouette shape, similar to the magic Inq. As well, the brand wanted to go back to their original main pattern and revise it with new icons based on the recently launched boxes. I designed each new icon while keeping a similar illustration style and balance to the previous pattern. I also designed in this project the packaging for the Motor Kit, Dovetail Puzzle Box, Magnetic Putty, Snake and Burr Puzzles, and the Magnetic Zen Garden. I also illustrated the T-shirt maze, elements on the insert cards, and Michael's face from Vsauce for the Magnetic Garden base. Aside from the packaging and illustrations I also did the layouts of the steam game and insert cards. Art from steam game and book were not created by me.
For the fall 2021, I designed the postcard artwork and t-shirt along with the packaging for the Bacteria Kit, Soma Cube Puzzle, Stereoscope and Booster Pack. Aside from the packaging and illustrations I also did the layouts and elements in the insert cards. Art from the shipper box was just revised by me, the main concept and new look for Inq was produced by the curiosity team.
