Pop Culture T-shirts
Some people might say that I sold out because I used to concentrate heavily in creating "artsy" shirts, but now I utilize pop culture icons to garner attention from the audience "of the lowest common denominator", but then again, I don't live in my parent's basement yo. I got rent, health insurance, and marketing expenses to pay as a freelancer working from home and besides...
Art to me isn't about the content. It's about craftsmanship, the hours artists toil away by their lonesome trying to reach that next plateau, that singular fleeting moment when you finally call a piece done and you actually feel like "Fuck Yeah! This shit is good. I. Did. Better. This. Time!"
That feeling don't last... at least for me. Finish a piece, and then keep on truckin'. That's my artist's journey.
It's exciting. It used to just be about the style of the piece. Now it's steppin it up a notch and tryin to take into consider the what the audience likes, and tryin to weave a clever concept to maximally entertain the fans WHILE maintaining a high level of artistic execution.
Now that's not selling out, that self improvement.
