India Fashion Week 2020 - Backdrop Design

BACKDROP DESIGN FOR INDIA FASHION WEEK

The first ever Phygital Edition of the Lotus Make-up India Fashion Week 2020 by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) was held from October 14th-18th, 2020.

Gently Altered gave me the opportunity to design the backdrops for a few shoots, while I was interning with them. The task was to create unique backdrops to be projected on a live LED screen during the shoots. Each backdrop was based on the participant designers' visualization to best compliment their collection.

You can find the entire event on the FDCI website.

Here's a few shots and snippets from the shoots! All the following images and videos have been taken from the FDCI website.

'UMME RABAB' presented by Ashima Leena.

This collection is a tribute to the skilled craftsmen and weavers of our rich textile industry who are struggling for their livelihood today. Representing the serenity and divinity of a woman known for her beauty, eloquence and wisdom. She proved to be the epitome of a modern Maharani- strong-willed and dedicated but doused in softness and femininity.
This couture collection combines delicate hand embroidery in the form of meticulously curated textiles with classic AL Maharani silhouettes.

The backdrop for this shoot was intended to be an ancient traditional Indian palace. The idea of a traditional palace emphasize the beauty of the AL Maharani silhouettes. The poetic flow in volume, layers, and impeccable garment construction, which characterizes the unique beauty of ’Umme Rabab’, is brought out by the gorgeous palace they are seen in. The dusky brown and red domes accentuate the subtle and exotic hues of the collection.

MIRROR ME' by Dhi.

The collection resonates with the society coping up with the Covid19 pandemic. Consisting of comfortable fits with crisp construction and attention to detail, the garments are chic and sophisticated, yet comfortable. They lend themselves to “Above the Key Board Dressing”, the new normal, where everybody is working from home.

I was asked to create a backdrop of a minimal white room, which reflects the message behind the collection as well as brings out the best in the garments. The backdrop is fashioned to be a sophisticated minimal space, manifesting the the essence of a work room in the house, combined with an outdoor space, demonstrating that the garments can be worn in the house as well as outside.

'INDIAN HIGH' presented by Virtues.

This collection is all about having fun with clothing, color, minute detailing in monochromes, Indian Handlooms and Gypsy vibes. The unique garments combine various Indian techniques, prints and thread work, to glorify the Indian Woman. The garments encompass traditional Indian crafts, yet are modern and chic.

The aim for this shoot was to create an abstract backdrop, reflecting the abstract nature of the collection. The backdrop was essentially a scenery of mountains and sun, but it was the bizarre colors that connected everything together. The peculiar backdrop impeccably highlighted the offbeat combinations of the garments.
