UPLO
An app to organize, buy, or sell
photography as printed art.

CLIENT / UPLO
MY ROLE / UX Design, UI Design, Branding

UPLO™ is a print and framing service both online and on the go that enables you to organize your personal photos and buy or sell your photography as printed art—anytime, anywhere directly from your phone. A photo-sharing, social media, printing, and framing service all in one app.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

Buy.
Order framed or unframed prints of your own photos, or purchase from a choice of other photographers’ images.

Sell.
Make a profit from your work while building your fan base. You earn a commission for every print sold.

Share.
Showcase your photography in personal galleries, and share them with your clients and followers, allowing them to view and purchase your work (a great option for wedding and special-event photographers).

WIREFRAMES

After accumulating data, extracting important insights, and after multiple iterations I created this userflow that displays the basic user path when using the product. After paper prototyping I moved into higher fidelity wireframes to study functionality, understand user behavior, and prioritize interface elements.

VISUAL DESIGN

Once the identity, brand colors, typography, and wireframes were vetted and established we were ready to move into the visual design of the app. The goal was to create a simple yet thoughtful user interface as to let the photography be the hero.

DESKTOP DESIGNS

The UPLO website runs simultaneously alongside the app, allowing you to upload imagery from your computer, other cameras or online platforms directly into your galleries. The site's purpose is to promote and sell the app, but we also wanted visitors to be able to explore the community without having to create a user profile. If they were to interact with or purchase a photo they would then be prompted to create a profile.

LEARNINGS

Seek Critical Feedback Early.

Despite the close collaboration between design and build, there could have been more honest conversations early on with the client when defining the MVP. Our ambition blinded us early, which resulted in inadequate time for build feedback where we suffered a premature release, ultimately leading investors to lose interest and pull out of further funding for the project.
