“First time I met Pedro I was 16 and he was 21. I was a girl trying to get more than three pirouettes on my point shoes while he was probably laughing of me. We were in the same Ballet class in Brazil on the year of 2007.
The time passed by and I started to discover what dance was really about. Pedro already knew it. Swan Lake is not every dancer's dream. Dance is not about the choreography, it is about expressing feelings by whatever means will best convey them. As Pina Bausch said: "I'm not interested in how people move, but what moves them". And that is probably what moved Pedro to Germany last year.
Everyone knows that the comfort zone is a big obstacle for any artist’s career. But what Pedro didn’t know was that he would feel much more uncomfortable in Germany than he thought. His hernia injury attacked during his first months in Essen, the city that he started living to study at Folkwang University of the Arts. The dream of reaching a dancer's career seemed to be running away from him.
This book is about the frustration of having a battle inside yourself, but also about the strength, perseverance and determination that artists carry within themselves.”
