INSPIRATION
I was assigned a still life shoot based on any art movements.
My theme and inspiration for this shoot was “Vanitas”
Vanitas is a symbolic work of art showing
the transience of life ,the futility of pleasure , and the certainty of death, often contrasting symbols of wealth and symbols of ephemerality and death.

Vanitas in the fashion industry is best explained through still life shoots and editorials.
The main contents of a Vanitas based shoot will always have the presence of objects such as skulls , dead animal bones , dead bugs ,flowers and decaying fruits only to show the importance of death and mortality and that everything comes to an end one day.
In the olden times, they also consisted of prestigious and valuable possessions to give a contrast and were a way of showing off ones priced possessions.
For my shoot I chose to get a whole pumpkin as pumpkins are considered a prestigious fruit , to add to it i sourced some dead flowers and tried to get my hands on fake bugs as real bugs weren’t allowed to the college campus. The wax on the pumpkin was added to give a better effect which did it’s work. The product I styled was a Gucci Guilty perfume that had a mixed aroma of florals ,cinnamon and rosewood. The scent composition complimented the shoot.
