Furniture Design
The following are a few designs for several different pieces of furniture I designed during a co-operative employment in Vancouver, British Columbia.  All designs are 100% wood and crafted individually by hand.  A couple of pieces were commissioned for office use for the company I was working for at the time, the rest were customized pieces for a client to suit a home renovation they were doing at the time.  All designs are by me, construction and assembly was done by the team at Jabez Fine Furniture Fabrication and Design, located in Vancouver (http://www.jabezfurniture.com).
Storage unit designed for office use constructed of maple with soft closing sliders and hinges.  Shelving unit is located on locking castors for ease of movement.  All hardware by Richelieu.  This particular piece was particularly challenging to design and build, as the measurements of the drawers and cabinets had to be perfect, as the height of the drawers smaller drawers is exactly one half of the file cabinet size drawers (top photo, bottom left) and one third of the larger cabinets.
A design for a desk.  The concept behind the desk was suck that it would easily be able to function as both a computer desk and a drafting table.  Using a piano hinge and specially designed wood props, a portion of the desk was easily lifted for drawing,  easily capable of fitting a standard 36 x 24 sheet paper.  The majority of the construction is composed of maple, while the black sections are a material called paperstone, essentially an extremely high density cardboard that has the texture and weight of natural stone materials, but can be machined and shaped like a natural wood product.  Hardware by Richelieu.
A Japanese inspired Tansu dresser for a client.  Constructed from walnut, with a bird's eye red maple veneer for the facade of the dresser.  Special care was considered when planning for construction so that the continuous waterfalling of the grain was achieved.  A quarter inch reveal is used between drawers to give the appearance of floating, while the unit itself is located on locking castors as per the clients request.  All hardware by Richelieu.
Headboard and bedside shelving design for the guest bedroom.  Six identical pieces of walnut with a quarter inch reveal on the reverse were fixed to the wall above where the bed was to be placed.  Wall mounted bed side lighting was also to be installed above each shelf.  Photo taken during installation.
A design for a nightstand, that was accompanied by a chest, head board and bed frame for the master bedroom.  The main material used for each was a bamboo plywood.  Nightstands on locking castors as per clients request.  All hardware by Richelieu.
Design for a chest as part of a bedroom set.  Body constructed from bamboo plywood with anodized aluminum inlay.  The lid of the chest is made of paperstone.  Chest is located on locking castors as per clients request.  All hardware by Richelieu.
