Our perception of things, people, circumstances, and events is important because how we view and interpret something often determines how we will respond. Unfortunately, because we are sinners, our perception of things is often distorted and therefore we react in wrong ways. In this series I want my audience to think about situations when they should not trust their own perspective. In this way, I hope to raise awareness that trusting ourselves is often hurtful to us, and more importantly, to others. To reach this goal, I have chosen to work in the genre of fine art and purposefully abstract my photos. The audience can still tell what the subject is, but not clearly – it is distorted, just like our perception can be. The color palette is similarly simple in all the photos to eliminate distractions and the vintage vibe is meant to draw attention to how our responses can have long-lasting consequences.
