The Art Prize of the City of Pilsen - making of

The winning design of The Art Prize of the City of Pilsen. The shape combines various symbols of the Pilsen region: St. Bartholomew's Cathedral, whose tower (102 m or 335 ft) is the highest in the Czech Republic; the Pilsen four-field flag and the confluence of four major rivers of West Bohemia - the Radbuza, the Mže, the Úhlava, and the Úslava—which form the Berounka River.
The design turned out to be impossible to manufacture from single piece of glass so I made this version composed from five pieces.
Test pieces made of 24% lead crystal. The glassworks didn't do very precise and good job on this one - not worth the money. Plus I had ridiculously limited budget.
I started to work on a design made of anodised aluminium (I love this material). After few consultations with owner of a metal workshop the design looked like this. Four towers connected with dowels.
Mirror polish aluminium test piece - Instant love. Weights about 1,5kg (similar to crystal), looks great and costs less than half compared to crystal.
Polished stainless square pipe on the left, polished aluminium in the middle and on the right. The gold ring is made of stainless steel with titanium coating.
