This was my first Penguin book jacket brief based upon the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. For the jacket below I used coloured pencil over ink to represent the psychotic stress the bound mental hospital patients are under. The ink leaving the box also represents the escaping patient 'chief'.
This second jacket is formed out of paper cutouts representing a child like mindset similar to the patients with some characters cut out to show the control of the nurses and the wardens. While on the reverse side is the escapee 'chief' who had fooled the hospital for a long time.
