CAO Mortal Coil "The Arcana Series"
The Arcana Series by CAO is dedicated to “old-world tobacco processing methods. Mortal Coil, the first release of the series, gets its name from the unique andullo aging process. Instead of traditional fermentation, The andullo process coils the tobacco into long cylinders, tightly wrapped in palm tree pods and hung like a sausage.

The Design
For the design of the band I wanted to try something different. To pay off this cigar's unique tobacco story I create a band that coiled around the cigar, instead of a traditional wrap. Like the box, the band can we read from any direction and the copper and black color scheme really allows it to stand out at shelf.
I wanted the name of the series to be visually impactful. The "Arcana" name is derived form the word "arcane", meaning mysterious or obscure. I wanted to bring that meaning into my design, so I designed the word mark as an ambigram. (Able to be read right side up or upside down)
