Iconic scene: Waiting Room 00:16:10:00

"Why this scene?"
Audience: Watchers of comedic films

Fellow comedic watchers, here we have the film Playtime and out of innovative inspiration creates a film in which follows a unique narrative. Comedy films or even television shows often always follow a certain protagonist in which the direction of the camera continuously follows. However, in this particular movie the protagonist or the character that the film follows is actually the lens of the camera and what it captures. Therefore, I present to you the waiting room scene as I think captures the main theme of the film and presents it specifically. This scene is shown 13 minutes into the film and is where the camera is met with a character that reoccurs across the film. Although he is not the main character, I think the narrative as the camera follows him encapsulates what the film is about. As this film is set in the ordinary day life in the city of France, often or not life is presented as an ordered and straight forward timeline. However, the character in this film seems a lost and unknowing of why exactly he is there, seems to present this sort of chaotic nature within the film. This iconic scene is presented and seen as a waiting room as he is waiting for particular instructions so that the narrative can progress, the character cannot help himself but to move around and fiddle with things and constantly trying to involve himself with everything while the characters he interacts with are just going on with their everyday life. Each scene in the film is seen once and only for a moment but this particular scene in the mist of everything is quite long and is somewhat more tamed to the rest of the movie however the nature of the actions of the character I think shines light on what the rest of the movie is about and slowly as the scenes progresses the more and more chaotic each scene become.
