Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM)

Brief
Create a solution that uses Tech & Data to change people's behavior from driving cars into the city to taking public transportation. The solution will be for TfGM's 2033 strategy, so predictions of future innovations are crucial to the idea.

Background
Manchester is one of UK’s fastest growing cities. There are over a million cars on the road, 40% of which were added within the last 20 years. Public transport and active travel account for less than 30% of all transport journeys. The people of Manchester waste an average of 72 hours in traffic congestion each year, leading to a total annual productivity loss of 800 million pounds.

Challenges
Current public transport service is viewed as unreliable and inconvenient, and even with the rising prices in parking, drivers are still willing to pay to drive into the city in order to avoid the hassles and discomfort of public transport. Great Manchester is surrounded by many deprived areas that lack public transportation and employment opportunities.

Solution
High Tech Hubs, located in key points surrounding the city centre designed to provide drivers and commuters an all encompassing in-hub and transport experience. The hubs, equipped with the latest technology to collect data and adapt to the needs of the users, provide easy access to the city through different methods of transportation as well as different amenities such as flexible work spaces within the hub.
Added bonus: Creates jobs and education possibilities in some of Manchester's most underprivileged communities.

Conclusion
The Hubs will reduce the congestion in the city centre while increasing employment and improving quality of life for surrounding deprived areas. We decided to present a flexible and scalable project that could easily adapt to fit the future development of Manchester and transport related technologies.
