A brochure for the exhibition Marte, el espejo rojo (Mars, the red mirror) at the CCCB in Barcelona, detailing a series of conferences and workshops to be held at the museum . The entire concept for the design is inspired on the so-called mars canals observed and mapped by Percival Lowell from 1894 to 1916, which influenced a whole generation to believe in the existence of an advanced civilization on the red planet. Mystery, suggestion and illusion are the conceptual axes of the visual system.
The brochure consists of three A3 sheets, simply folded as a newspaper, on one side there’s the text and on the other a full page illustration of Mars and its canals. This format seeks to subtly emulate the working papers of a scientist, like Lowell, illustrated, scribbled and piled up on a desk.
The illustrations are by me. This is a project created for IED Barcelona’s masters in Graphic Design.
