The Secular Retreat, also named as the Devon Villa was designed by a Swiss architect Peter Zumthor in 2018, the Devon Villa was located in Chivelstone in US which sits at the south Devon hilltop as a private villa and a one-storey house project. This project was the first to be commissioned by the company “living architecture”, however before the beginning of the project history, this site was first to be used to built a house by a landowner at the 1940s until the year when the company purchased the land on 2008 and commissioned Peter, the house structure remains there so Peter got took over this architecture to form how it looks like nowadays. 

Although he secular Retreat was the first villa commission for living architecture from the 7 other projects, however it spent more than 10 years for the project and became the last one to be finished out of the 7 commissioned projects, the cause for the delay is that the level of  detail in craftsman ship, the rammed concrete facade using man-power, that makes it the seventh to be finish and the whole project finalise it’s construction in 2019.
