Expedition Perm – A Low Poly Serious Game

Expedition Perm was my practical bachelor thesis I finished and finally presented to the public in May 2012. It is a video game for children between 6 and 15 years but also for grown-ups who are interested in natural history. My client was the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz. Scientists of the museum made excavations and found plants and trees that are 280 million years old. They are displayed in the exhibition of the museum now.
 
During my visit at the museum I noticed there were not many objects to interact or play with which brought me the idea creating a serious game for that beautiful exhibition in Chemnitz. My goal was to reconstruct the forest and some animal species from the time of Perm and make that world available to the public for the first time.
Expedition Perm was made with Unity.
The scientists gave me the paleontological informations of the plants they have found in their excavations. In consultation with them, I was able to model the plants according to the latest scientific knowledge.
