Divine Dumplings Brand Identity

Divine Dumplings Brand Identity

We were hired to create a brand identity for a Toronto-based digital restaurant. The team’s vision was to launch a delivery-only operation to serve downtown Toronto with the best and most authentic Chinese dumplings. We pitched the name Divine Dumplings to them as a means to make a statement for the quality of their product by comparison to other dumplings in the downtown core.

The inspiration for the identity came from the story of  the semi-historical Chinese monk, Budai, who allegedly lived in 10th century China. His name literally means “cloth sack”, which refers to the bag he always carries. Legend has it the Budai’s bag is always filled with goodies and never empties! His jolly nature, humorous personality, and eccentric lifestyle has made him a favourite figure who is known to bring good luck and wealth to everyone who crosses paths with him. We like to imagine that his bag is filled with out of this world delicious dumplings!
