Ali The Persian (1001 Nights) - Modern Retelling

This is the modern interpretation of the classic story Ali The Persian from the 1001 Arabian Nights stories.

Completed for a layout course at the German University in Cairo, the task was to reinterpret the story in our own way while creating an accompanying visual identity to apply on a bilingual booklet, leaflet, and poster.

The project was supervised by Philip Paulsen, Hana Issa, and Habiba Emad.

In the original story, the main focal point is the bag and all the extraordinary (exaggerated) contents within it. In this version, the bag is also the true main character of the story, but instead, everything is set in an airport with Ali taking his bag through several security checks and bag scans.

The visuals of the booklet are largely inspired by the imagery produced by bag scanners at security check points, the contrasting colours differentiating objects within the bag was incredibly interesting to look at and recreate for this project.
