The Max der Dachs - Din Schuelweg is a mobile traffic training course for children aged four and older. This serious game helps to practice real-life traffic situations even before kindergarten by learning the Swiss traffic rules in a playful way. It is free to download and available for iOS and Android. 2019.
Project members
Hinderling Volkart and the AXA Foundation for Prevention approached dreipol to develop a children's game that would prepare the little ones safely for road traffic. As the game developer of dreipol, I managed the technical part of the project while Hinderling Volkarts desigers Tunay Bora and Raphael Kunz were creating the UI and 3d Models.
Highlights
Testing with young children in a day care center was exciting and i learned a lot about how children interact with mobile devices.
We wanted the kids to move freely through the levels but controlling the camera with the gyro sensor was very challenging for some of the children that we had to bind the player movement to a pre defined path by default.
To have a nice pacing between learning the theoretical traffic rules and playing practical i used Unitys camera controller Cinemachine and the Sequenzer to make smooth transitions between scenes.
While working on the project I defined the game development process for dreipol, more information about this topic can be found in my blog post «Wie wir bei dreipol Games entwickeln».
