Jimshy, an Instagram influencer pour the coffee to ceramic mug in Arutala Coffee's office, Tangerang, Banteng (November 15, 2019).
Meet Arutala Coffee, an artisan coffee roastery based on Tangerang, Banten.

Arutala Coffee is hands-on coffee bean roasting, from Sumatera Mandheling to Papua Wamena. The coffee bean distributed from local farmers. For example, I saw one coffee sacks was from Yogyakarta in the office roastery.

How I met this project? I was hired by Elite Marketer, a digital agency and education platform based on South Jakarta. Elite Marketer allowed me to handle this photoproduction. It started with a photoshoot at Arutala’s office, then I met several influencers for a photo session that would promote Arutala’s product.

But I got hints. The coffee roasting is a unique process. The officer initiated to show me how the coffee beans roasted. There was a roasting machine called Vina Nha Trang (VNT).
According to VNT official website, the machine purely manufactured in Vietnam. It has ISO 9001:2008 standard and completes with technology. Such as aspiration filter, autoscale and centrifugal screener. It seems it was a bit similar to the coffee processing machine from Germany, Probat Coffee Roaster.
The officer fired up the machine, then shed a sack of green coffee beans. He set the temperature to bake into the dark roast. The machine stirred to ensures distribution of heat. In the first crack (between 3-5 mins), the beans produced an audible crack, which means the beans were lightly roasted.
The officer continued to the second crack process. This process indicated a medium roast. Few more minutes of roasting (not too long), it became dark roast. He waited until the beans cool down. After that, he asked me and the influencers to grab it and smelled the aroma. It was the first time experience for me to watch the process.
After the beans roasted, the officer placed it to buckets. Next, I moved to one more photo session with influencers. One of the influencers had experience in learning as a barista. She performed her ability to make a coffee step by step.
All done. I tasted the coffee. I had GERD, but the acidity still fit and didn’t make me cranky. In case you are wondering, how do I get this tasty and original ground coffee from Indonesia? Go to Arutala Coffee’s online shop at Tokopedia and Shopee. Keep in touch at Instagram, too .

Happy brewing!
