The main aim is to provide the extreme sports user with space to relaxand sleep overnight after a day’s adventure seeking or driving to a competitionor event. I have concentrated my design activity on a producing a trailer tentdesign, which is heavily rooted in the design ethics, and styling of ford's'kinetic design' movement. The final design incorporates the kinetic designmantra and style, producing a rugged and stylish trailer tent design for everyextreme sports user.

The brief: after along research and data gathering activity on the current state of the trailerand rv market as a whole i decided to focus on a personal user level. i wantedto meet the needs of an extreme sports user whilst on the road and offer them atrailer design, which was a one-stop personal solution.
Research: initialresearch was based around the trailer research in the world market as a wholeand this further down the line lead me to look at the individual user. i lookedat the ins and outs of an extreme sports user as a whole, what were there dailyroutines what equipment did they need and what kinds of things would they needwhen away from home on the road. this then lead me to research the types ofcar/vehicle they would be driving, i settled upon the ford kuga to be a vehiclewhich appealed to each group of extreme sports users the most. it is a designthat fits well into the extreme sports personal lifestyle and aesthetic style.
Concepts: initialconcepts based purely upon how the trailer could be revamped as a living spaceand how it’s a surface could be improved to be much more aesthetically pleasingto an extreme sports user. but with the vehicle research concepts focused moreupon how they would interact with the vehicles that the users would drive. designsand concepts then developed to try and match the same kind of styling’s thecars and eventually the ford kuga had. in the ford kuga’s case i was able towork with ford’s ‘kinetic design’ mantra and this enabled me to develop aconcept, which was in line with their high quality car design division.
Investigation: theinvestigation and issues of the extreme sports user was heavily based around thekind of transport they used in the end, i spent lots of times organising theusers into different user groups and cross checking these groups of users withthe cars they drove. this research drove my concept and idea generation beforei settled upon the ford kuga trailer design idea.
Final Design:influences and inspired by the ford kuga, the kuga x-trail is the trailer thatoffers the complete all round solution for the extreme sports user. stretchingout at 3.8metres the design is 1.4metres tall at its peak. with large amountsof space inside to store all your valuables and equipment, the x-trail is theall-in-one solution for the adrenaline junkie in all of us. the kinetic designis reflective of the rush you create when pushing yourself to the limit.
