Fernanda Vuilleumier is the director and founder of studio FV established in 2008 and based in Puerto Natales Región de Magallanes, Provincia de Ultima esperanza, Chile & Santiago Chile, where the practice of architecture within a broader context of per formative research explores the medium of architecture as an active condition. The work encompasses client-based projects at a wide array of building scale, as well as hypothetical architectural proposals and temporary perceptions, context and nature.
Vuilleumier's focuses on material innovation, research, application, and resourcefulness within a broader social and cultural context while providing a well-rounded architecture. She engages physically and digitally with high tech, low technologies and emerging building materials systems to explore architecture as a critical evolving functionality.
Vuilleumier's methodology is to negotiate complex relationships between viewer and object. She employs and manipulates a diverse range of innovative strategies and emergent technologies: hybrid materials, patterned surfaces, and complex arrangements of repeated elements.
The resultant tectonic language facilitates customization and evolving functional needs, while creating provocative environments which are spatial and material.
In combination with running her architectural practice Fernanda is the fouder of LATIN AMERICAN LABORATORY NETWORK (LAALAB.NET) is a network-based laboratory for the critical exploration of new tendencies by Artists and Designers from the Latin American community all over the world.
LATIN AMERICA LABORATORY (LAALAB.ORG) is a non-profit research laboratory composed of a multidisciplinary team of professionals and students seeking to improve the human condition in Latin American countries, through the application of sustainable design. We focus on re-defining applications of low-tech and high-tech engineering using high-performance design-materials & -methods.

STUDIO
Architecture used to be seen as building an object. For most part, this is still the case. This last decade a new trend has emerged, trying to grant fluidity to architecture by means of electronic devices, flexible, interchangeable, updatable reprogrammable and scenic environments that are no longer necessarily the base of space and matter, but bits and moments of interaction.
Whatever the revolutionary power of this new character of architecture as a time based art, many things remain the same. Most of the time it can only come into existence if there is a site, a client, a budget, and a pre-selected technology. Moreover, people who hard-produce it, whatever the radical innovation of the profession, it stick to its reactive pattern.
The question is: Can we go beyond this pattern and anticipate architecture before it becomes a request? Can architecture emerge, surface, show up at times and places where nobody thought of architecture as solving a problem?
Can Architecture exceed its own procedures and scripted concepts and invent scripts for time, spaces and the production of meaning beyond the project?
Can it find a new definition and command itself? In other words, can architecture be an unsolicited act?
