Born in Saint-François-Xavier, David Champagne graduated with a degree in photography from CEGEP de Matane. Working primarily in documentary photography, he is fascinated by human beings, their behaviour and their lifestyles. His work is a testimony of our age, his photography is a sociological exploration of our time. On one hand, his work explores the notion of territory and the ways in which people alter and modify their immediate environments. On the other, his work explores the topic of identity and the ways in which men and women recognize themselves (or not) in the spaces they occupy. Interested in subjects both local and international, he travels in search of encounters and landscapes and seeks to capture people in the daily lives, whether it be at home, at work or at play. He is also interested in photomontage, where he reworks, modifies and transforms original photographs into surrealist, subversive and often humorous new works. David is a member of the “Hors d'Etat” photo collective, a group dedicated to documentary photography. David Champagne currently lives and works in Montreal. Read Less
