The word “Kustom” is a Pavlovian bell to me. I have always been obsessed and stoked with anything creatively different. To be inspired and to care enough to craft, whatever it is, into something unique and to your personal vision will consistently engage an audience and set the work apart while forging incredible value into a brand.

I am a seasoned veteran of the design world with roots deep in the Surf industry as Creative Director for O'Neill Wetsuits & Sportswear in Santa Cruz, CA. I went on to be co-founder of the lifestyle branding studio, 13THFLOOR, amassing heavy combat experience in alternative cultures with my biz partner, Eric Ruffing, within action sports, motorsports, entertainment and youth markets.

The value of crafting by hand is my vision as the heart and soul of my new venture- KUSTOM KULT STUDIO. My expertise is hand crafting original, relevant and distinctively stylized design. Attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship is what activates unique and engaging work that my clients find to be a truly valuable resource and brand asset.

During my career I am honored to have been recognized by some of the world’s most prestigious design organizations, including awards and recognition from the likes of HOW, Graphis, Print, Logo Lounge, Letter Cult, Alt, Alternative Pick , Western Art Directors and The Addy Awards. My work has been published in a plethora of books, magazines and blogs and I have also co-authored and designed a rad little children’s book with AMMO Books, "Alternative ABCs."

O’NEILL Wetsuits & Sportswear
Creative Director I 1985-1992

Dropped into this “35 year old ground floor company” as the Art Director and grew our department from 2 peeps to 12. Directed our group to evolve the O’Neill brand to better represent the best wetsuit in the world. Pushed the brand image and presence into the forefront of the industry, utilizing key branding assets and integrated marketing including product design, product names, product graphics, print & broadcast advertising, music production, apparel graphics + labeling systems, trade exhibits, retail systems + event marketing, many of which are replicated to this day.

Collaborated with global and domestic CEO’s, VP’s, Directors and Senior Designers on branding continuity for wetsuits + sportswear across 5 sports- Surfing, Bodyboarding, Waterskiing, Windsurfing + Volleyball.

Contributed to this company going from $6 mil in annual revenue to 30+ mil. Wild ride!

Also had the unique opportunity of working with the vision of our CEO in developing our in-house creative group into a profit center as a creative resource for all O’Neill licensees worldwide. Read Less
