Dong Yoon Park is a Designer, Creative Technologist and Author from Seoul, Korea.

He became interested in computer graphics with painting software Dr.Halo and Deluxe Paint, during the era of XT computers. His curiosity about computer graphics inspired him to study electrical engineering at Korea University, from semiconductor to operating system and he started working in the web design and development fields in 1999 with dot-com startups and internet boom.

After completing military service at R.O.K Army and receiving bachelor of engineering degree from Korea University, he had worked at Samsung Electronics as a software research engineer, in the Telecommunication R&D Center, focusing on the user interface for GSM/WCDMA and experimental mobile phones. Collaboration with the design team and previous experience in web design fueled his desire to become a designer.

He went back to design school and studied visual communication design at SADI(Samsung Art & Design Institute) and continued his study at Parsons The New School for Design, in the MFA Design & Technology program. With this multidisciplinary background, he is interested in the synergy between design and technology. His research topics include UI/GUI design in evolving mobile platforms, typography, data visualization and 3D graphics. He finished his graduate study with thesis project ‘Typography Insight’(http://typeinsight.org/) which has been featured as ‘iPad app of the week’ in various countries and ranked 2nd in education category of US App Store. With his interest in mobile app design and development, he wrote the book ‘도전! 아이폰4 프로프래밍(iCan iPhone4 Programming)’ which has become a best selling iPhone programming book in 2011 in Korea.

With this multidisciplinary background, he is interested in the synergy between design and technology. His research topics include UI/GUI design in evolving new mobile platforms, typography, data visualization and 3D graphics. Currently, he is working at Microsoft as UX designer, exploring new possibilities in tablet platform devices and Windows 8 apps. He has been working on Bing Sports and Finance app as a main designer.
