uniting art & biology to conserve OurChangingSeas

Corallia Design is in the Art District on Santa Fe in Denver, CO.

Artist statement:
I look to environmental science and biology for artistic inspiration, and my appreciation for the beauty of nature motivates me to learn more about the creatures that shape it. The forms and behaviors of marine organisms provide many paths for both scientific and artistic exploration. My work celebrates the exotic forms of ocean flora and fauna in concert with their biological complexity, diversity, and vulnerability in the face of human-caused threats such as climate change, ocean acidification, overfishing and land-based pollution. Perhaps if my work can influence policy makers and the public to appreciate the fragile beauty of our endangered marine ecosystems we will act more wholeheartedly to conserve them. Read Less

Proceeds from the sale of Courtney's work go towards a recurring donation to 350.org, which is inspiring the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis. Proceeds also benefit a variety of marine conservation efforts, including Mission Blue:

Mission Blue is "dedicated to exploring and caring for the ocean, the blue heart of the planet." One third of the proceeds from the sale of Courtney's "Hope Spots" series benefits Mission Blue founder Dr. Sylvia Earle's commitment to "inspiring a sea change in public awareness, and support for a global network of Marine Protected Areas - Hope Spots - ranging from the deepest ocean to sunlit reefs, and from the seamounts of the high seas to coastal seagrass meadows."
