Experience Shapes Life:
As a long-time Plantation resident with 25 years of successful business experience, Connie understands the issues and concerns of the Plantation business community. As a Council candidate, one of Connie's top priorities would be to increase business for Plantation's shopping centers and commercial/industrial parks. As a Council member, Connie would work toward enticing more business to locate in Plantation thereby both increasing city tax revenue and adding service convenience for Plantation residents. Connie believes that the City Council needs to address the issues of local businesses regarding signage and landscaping.
Connie is a dedicated community servant with the belief that each individual has a responsibility to support causes that make a difference in people’s lives. As a Council member, Connie would push for Plantation to develop a proactive service learning program. The program should partner with local high schools, colleges and universities so that students could earn required service learning credits by donating their time to Plantation public and charitable organizations. Connie feels that our City Council has responsibility to our community to create opportunities to encourage young people to have a sense of civic service while being a part of making our City a better place to live. We each have a responsibility to leave the world a better place than we found it.
The Biggest Challenge:
Clearly managing the City budget with falling revenues is the biggest challenge the City of Plantation faces in the coming year. What changes can be implemented to reduce costs and encourage new revenue? Approaching this issue from her 25 years of business experience, Connie knows that time is money. Each department in the City needs to be examined with a fresh point of view. For example, to accomplish the dual purpose of encouraging new businesses to make Plantation their home and to save the City of Plantation employee costs, it is necessary to streamline the process for applications for City of Plantation planning, zoning, building and engineering permits. Many cities have successfully implemented an online system for applications for checking the status of an application or tracking a building permit, scheduling, re-scheduling or canceling building inspections, reviewing the details of land use applications and other steps related to building and permitting. Having a public use City of Plantation permit site would encourage businesses that are considering moving to Plantation to see the entire process as business friendly. Streamlining the process through the use of an internet site would realize savings in employee costs for the City of Plantation.
