I've been designing since I could hold a pencil, even though I didn't know what I was doing. Whether it was obsessively researching an animal or event and then creating A0 posters, copy and all and presenting them to my enthusiastic parents or whether it was drawing/painting life-size endangered wildlife and exhibiting them at my school, I was always trying to communicate something.
