The Plastic Bag Mandala Project
Co-Founder
The Plastic Bag Mandala Project started of as a collaboration between Public Projects at Pratt Institute, The InterDependence Project, Bags for the People and The Farmers Market at Union Square to address the issue of single-sue plastic bags in New York. The Plastic Bag Mandala Project aims to raise awareness about the hazards of single-use plastic bags through a system of community engagement, art, design advocacy and analog interactivity.
The project uses an art installation piece, information posters, workshops in public schools and a children's activity book to start a conversation with the public around plastic bags and NYC.
I developed and implemented a system of community engagement with multiple stakeholders through art, design advocacy, and analog interactivity. As part of this project, A children's activity book called "The Plastic Bag- A Scrap It Book" was written and designed to investigate the life cycle/system of a single-use plastic bag. Various sustainable workshops at schools were also offered that are based on the activities from this book.
The project was featured at The Union Square Farmers Market, Figment 2012, New Green City 2012 and will be featured at IDEAS CITY 2013.
