I am fundamentally curious and freshly a Master of Graphic Design, so they now say. Two years ago when I made the decision to step away from the professional design world and immerse myself in an academic environment it was at first about the prestige of the degree, about what that degree would say about my commitment to the field of design and to my dedication to professional and personal betterment. It was also about becoming more educated and eventually becoming a better and smarter designer. It was about being positioned to obtain a job that is more purposeful and better suited for my career goals and ambitions. It was about having the ability to give back through teaching and instruction. Eventually it was about a longing for that time and space away from clients, budgets and timelines - to explore, to wonder and, ultimately, to grow. While I still adamantly strive for all of these things, I have realized that my focus has shifted from an inner view to something much more externally based. I want to know how to take that voice that I have been given in design and develop it as a tool that positively influences the individual, our society and ultimately this planet.
