An African Dream
In 2009 I was asked to do a painting "An African Dream" for the president of FIFA, Mr Sepp Blatter. As a South African artist my intention was to thank FIFA and Mr. Blatter for making a dream possible to so many South Africans. Not only does the 2010 World Cup bring hope to aspiring football players but it spills over to every person in South Africa who dreams of competing on the international stage. It gives us that additional confidence to keep aspiring to greater goals, it keeps our hopes alive.
The painting illustrates an African Man dreaming of success, he is moving across the history and tradition of his people onto greater things. His eye is set on his goal and victory. The trophy is yet but a vision in his mind but it's only a matter of time until he succeeds.
The Dream is alive!!!!!
On 24 June 2009 I presented the gift to Mr. Blatter at the Michelangelo Towers in Sandton, where he stayed during his time in South Africa. An enthusiastic audience of FIFA representatives were present. It was a truly moving moment when I witnessed how touched Mr Blatter was by this image. He instantaneously grasped my message and announced that the painting will find a special place in his home. It once again shows the power of an image to share a vision.
